CPS Energy Expands EV Demand Response With Meter-Based Charging Program

Electric vehicle adoption presents utilities with both opportunities and challenges. EVs represent a significant source of flexible electric demand, yet programs designed to manage charging have often depended on integration with individual vehicles, chargers, or third-party platforms.

By replacing charger-level integrations with a meter-based approach to behavioral EV charging, CPS Energy has expanded participation, reduced technology barriers, and created a scalable model for utilities managing growing electric-vehicle loads.

The effort earned CPS Energy Bronze recognition for Excellence in Electric Vehicle Programs in Chartwell’s 2026 Best Practices Awards.
