PECO’s Meter Defender Discourages Electric Theft
PECO developed Meter Defender to help address the thorny problems of electricity theft and meter tampering. These issues present challenges in terms of financial impacts to the company, as well as safety threats to employees and customers. In 2018, a group of PECO Customer Operations employees launched an effort to develop Meter Defender, an Internet of Things (IoT) device that mounts to a meter and provides 24/7 tampering notifications.
