Economic Development and Load Growth: How Utilities Can Power Regional Prosperity

Utilities are increasingly playing a direct role in shaping regional economic growth. With a recent reorganization combining Economic Development and Key Accounts into a unified team, Memphis Light, Gas and Water is strengthening its ability to attract investment, support major customers, and manage long‑term system load.

In this session, MLGW’s John Lawrence will share how this integrated structure enhances collaboration with economic development partners, business leaders, and the Tennessee Valley Authority. Through coordinated customer engagement, targeted incentives, and strategic infrastructure planning, MLGW supports company expansion while ensuring the system can reliably meet new demand.

Attendees will gain practical insights into aligning utility planning, customer relationships, and business development strategies to drive sustainable load growth.
