Powering Partnerships and Progress: ComEd’s Electrification Plan Wins Gold

ComEd has been recognized with Chartwell’s 2025 Gold Award for Excellence in Electric Vehicles, a prestigious honor that highlights the utility’s leadership in advancing clean transportation and equitable electrification.

At the heart of this recognition is ComEd’s Beneficial Electrification Plan, launched in early 2024. This ambitious initiative has already delivered impressive results:

  • Over 5,500 new public and private EV charging ports were incentivized
  • Nearly 1,500 new or pre-owned electric fleet vehicles were purchased or leased
  • 78% of program funds were allocated to low-income and equity-eligible customers

ComEd’s approach centers on access, affordability, and trust, and is strengthened by collaborations with stakeholders ranging from the State of Illinois to numerous private and public sector partners. These efforts are not only expanding infrastructure but also ensuring that underserved communities are included in the transition to electric mobility.

Notably, EV registrations in Illinois surged in Q1 2025 compared to the same period in 2024—an encouraging sign of momentum fueled by ComEd’s strategic rollout.
