Maintaining Control During Chaos: How BGE’s Storm Work Queue Automation Keeps Restoration Moving

Baltimore Gas and Electric strengthened its storm response operations by implementing Storm Work Queue Automation, an AI-powered system that automatically routes and prioritizes storm-related work orders across defined operational queues. The automation helps reduce manual workload for analysts, minimize backlogs and misrouted work, and ensure crews have assignments ready as storm activity escalates, allowing emergency operations leaders and experienced staff to focus on higher-priority and more complex restoration work. During severe thunderstorms over the July 4, 2026, weekend, the system helped sort more than 1,700 storm-related jobs, with all but Priority 1 jobs routed into the correct queues as they came in.

This effort earned Baltimore Gas and Electric the Silver Award for Excellence in Emergency Management in Chartwell’s 2026 Best Practices Awards.
