Southern Company Reinvents Storm Resource Management with Vision and Speed
Southern Company earned Chartwell’s 2026 Bronze Award for Excellence in Outage Operations for rapidly transforming storm resource and logistics management across its operating companies. In just six months, the company replaced fragmented legacy tools, spreadsheets and manual workflows with a unified GridCritical platform developed with Voltagy. The system gives storm centers and local operating areas a shared, real-time view of personnel, equipment, lodging, contractor and mutual assistance resources across Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. Built through close collaboration with operational subject matter experts, the platform supports faster mobilization, stronger resource planning, improved logistics coordination and more effective financial controls. Since launching in September 2025, it has supported major weather events and more than 400 users during Winter Storm Fern, while continuing to evolve through post-event feedback and enhancements.
