Electric Vehicle Industry Survey Brings Insights to Utility Electrification Journey

As utilities across North America have embarked on the journey toward electrification, they have faced both opportunities and challenges in integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into their service territories. Chartwell's inaugural EV Industry Survey provides utilities with comprehensive insights into industry standards, common milestones, and strategic roadmaps that are driving the future of e-mobility. In addition to data from the EV Survey, this report includes insights and examples from Black Hills Energy, Con Edison, Connexus, CPS Energy, DTE Energy, Duke Energy, Hawaiian Electric, NiSource, and PG&E, among others.

The results of Chartwell’s 2025 Electric Vehicle Industry Survey include 41 complete responses from utilities across the United States and Canada with a total customer base of more than 87 million customers. Respondents include 22 IOUs, six municipalities, four public district utilities, three crown corporations, three cooperatives, and three utilities of other types.
