Electric vehicle adoption presents utilities with both an opportunity and a challenge. As more drivers plug in, utilities must build charging infrastructure, educate customers, manage growing electrical demand, and ensure the grid remains reliable. Orange & Rockland Utilities (O&R) has approached those responsibilities as interconnected goals rather than separate programs.

This customer-first strategy earned O&R the Silver Award for Excellence in Electric Vehicle Programs in Chartwell’s 2026 Best Practices Awards.
