ComEd’s Strategic Emergency Preparedness Ensures Power and Security

In January 2024, ComEd’s Emergency Preparedness team launched an eight-month initiative to support the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC), an event that brought more than 50,000 attendees to Chicago. The team’s approach included developing a risk mitigation strategy, establishing an internal incident command structure, and coordinating closely with federal, state, and local partners to protect essential services. This work helped to ensure uninterrupted power to two high-security primary venues and more than two dozen secondary locations.

This effort earned ComEd Bronze recognition in Chartwell’s 2025 Best Practices Awards for Emergency Management.
