Alabama Power’s ETR Monitoring Program for Accurate Outage Communication

Alabama Power received Chartwell’s 2026 Gold Award for Excellence in Outage Communications for its Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR) Monitoring Program, which transforms restoration messaging from a passive system output into an actively managed communication discipline. The program establishes dedicated ETR Monitor and ETR Manager roles that coordinate with field crews, dispatch, and the storm center to keep restoration estimates timely, accurate, and operationally grounded. Supported by analytics dashboards, automated ETR generation, and structured communication practices, the program improves transparency for customers while reducing message churn during major events. In this session, Alabama Power will share how governance, technology, and operational discipline strengthened trust and consistency in outage communications.
