LUMA Energy Works With Puerto Rico Hospitals to Stabilize Arrears, Promote Uninterrupted Service

Recognizing hospitals as essential community institutions, LUMA Energy has come up with a way to support these hospitals when they fall behind on electricity payments. LUMA’s Hospital Payment Agreement Innovation (HPAI) Pilot targets Puerto Rico’s hospitals in stabilizing arrears and protecting uninterrupted electric service through the introduction of flexible repayment options, which help participating institutions move toward financial stability while reducing arrears and maintaining uninterrupted service.

This effort earned LUMA Energy the Silver Award for Excellence in Arrears Management in Chartwell’s 2026 Best Practices Awards.
