Chartwell’s 2020 Outage Restoration Benchmark report available now
Rebecca Harris, Data Analyst –
Chartwell’s latest benchmark report is available now! This past February, Chartwell surveyed the industry on outage restoration, including outage management systems (OMS), ETR accuracy, drones, and field crew technology and training.
Survey respondents identified better-designed mobile technology for field crews as the technology that will have the most impact on outage restoration over the next five years. According to 76% of respondents, technology is key to encouraging customer communication, as technology can enable crews to communicate without stopping work.
Technology adoption trends reflect this idea. Between 2017 and 2020, the industry saw the most growth in use of rugged laptops, tablets and damage assessment apps. According to Chartwell research, tablets, mobile data terminals and hands-free technology are poised to experience the most growth in the next few years. Utilities are also considering implementing workforce management and damage assessment apps.
